Directions to La Maison, 1 Grand Rue, 31560 Caignac France

Satnav is dodgy using the post code as 31560 covers an area the size of Luton! But you can enter the following coordinates which will get you to the door.

In degrees, minutes, seconds: N 43 19 14.45 - E 1 42 43.70

In decimal degrees: N 43.321700 - E 1.712397

Tel: 05 34 66 45 22 (when dialling from the UK use the country code of 0033 and drop the zero). Cellphone coverage is fine throughout the property.

One of the better web sites for destination finding/route planning in Europe is www.mappy.com but here are some local directions over the last 8kms.

Most people would arrive via the A61 - the Autoroute des deux mers which connects Bordeaux (Atlantic) with Narbonne (Mediterranean) via Toulouse. Come off at Junction 20 (signed Villefranche de Lauragais) some 35kms south east of Toulouse and 55kms north west of Carcassonne.

After negotiating the toll booth follow the directions for Gardouch and Nailloux by turning right at the first roundabout and right again at the main road T junction after some 400 metres. You will now cross over the motorway and 400 metres further on the Canal du Midi. You enter the village of Gardouch.

Turn left at the T junction in the village and after a kilometre take the left hand turn for Mazeres and Pamiers. This is the D16. After 6kms you will see the church/village of Caignac looming on a hilltop and after a further kilometre take the left hand turn marked by a yellowy/orange sign for Maryse and Myriam's Bar/café (Aux verres luisants) in the village. Make a right turn up the hill after 100 metres. On entering the village you pass the church on your right and the house forms the left hand side of the street (Grand Rue - appreciate the irony!) and is easily identifiable by its blue shutters. Park in the street outside the front door or use the car entrance at the far end opposite the bar/café/shop

Here are some average journey times from the house (not including any stops) -obviously factor in autoroute traffic at certain times of the year:-

  • Toulouse Airport (Blagnac) - 45 minutes (exit and follow A61 Montpellier)
  • Carcassonne Airport (Salvaza) - 45 minutes (exit left and follow A61 Toulouse)
  • Mediterranean (Narbonne plage)- 60 minutes
  • Pyrenees (Ax-les-Thermes) 60 minutes, Andorra 100 minutes
  • Barcelona - 3 hours, Lourdes - 2 hours, Biarritz - 3 hours
  • St Malo - 7 hours - via Nantes and Bordeaux
  • Calais - 10 hours (dependant on Paris) - or not via Rouen, Evreux, Dreux and Chartres. Then it's autoroute south via Orleans, Limoges, Cahors and Toulouse.

Bonne route
